The Facts About Fats

The  Good:
Monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated fats raise your HDL or (good chloesterol levels and lower LDL or bad chloesterollevels.You can find theses fats in fish,nuts,peanuts,seeds,canola and olive oil.

The Bad:
Saturated fat and trans fatty acids(trans fat) are found in butter,hard margarine,meat,poultry,chocolte,lard and tropical oils as coconut,palm kernal and palm.By raising the blood levels of bad cholesteral these fats increase your risk for a heart disease.

The Ugly:

Though saturated fats raise your LDL chloesterol levels,they also have a small effect on raising your HDL levels.But trans fat only raises your LDL (bad cholesterol levels,while trans fat is found in small amounts in animal products its common in manufactured food,such as hard margarine,crackers,cookies,pastries,muffins and fried foods.Since the goverment regulations have made trans fat labelling mandatory on most foods many companies have moved away from using transfat.if you can't find a label on the package look for the ingredients such as shortening or hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil as a indication that the item includes trans fat.The absence of trans fat however doesn't mean that the food item is low fat.
